I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Drug dealing, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Prolific Ripley drug dealer jailed for over six years
On Friday 10 April 2026, officers from the Amber Valley Safer Neighbourhood Team were carrying out foot patrols in woodland near Sir Barnes Wallis Recreation Ground when they spotted two males walking towards them.
Upon seeing the officers, Jake CARROLL dropped multiple items from his hand and attempted to walk away.
Officers approached CARROLL, at which point he lunged at one of them in an attempt to escape. Following a short struggle, CARROLL was detained for a stop search, during which a quantity of crack cocaine and heroin, along with £287 in cash was recovered.
He was arrested and taken to Wyatts Way custody suite, where he was interviewed. CARROLL answered “no comment” to all questions and refused to account for the allegations.
Following extensive enquiries, officers secured multiple charges, and CARROLL was remanded to Derby Magistrates Court and then into prison ahead of a Crown Court trial.
Jake CARROLL, 32, of Furlong Avenue, Arnold, appeared at Derby Crown Court on 8 May 2026, where he pleaded guilty to: -Possession with intent to supply 47 wraps of cocaine (Class A) -Possession with intent to supply 8 wraps of heroin (Class A) -Possession of cannabis (Class B) -Assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty
He was sentenced to six years and six months’ imprisonment. The court also ordered the destruction of the drugs and related paraphernalia, along with the forfeiture of £287.36. The seized cash will be used to support local charities and initiatives aimed at tackling the causes of crime within the county.
PC Holland, who led the investigation, said: “Proactive patrols and vigilance led to the arrest and conviction of a man carrying significant quantities of Class A drugs. His attempt to evade officers and assault a constable only added to the seriousness of his offending.”
“Our Safer Neighbourhood Team is committed to keeping local spaces safe. This result highlights the impact of proactive patrols and our determination to tackle drug-related harm and protect residents.”
The illicit drugs market is big business, worth an estimated £9.4 billion a year and drug deaths have reached an all-time. Taking the health harms, costs of crime and wider impacts on society together, it is estimated the total costs of drugs to society are over £19 billion, which is more than twice the value of the market itself. If you are adversely affected by antisocial behaviour in your community associated with drug use, The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 outlines the flexible tools and powers that the police, local authorities and other local agencies can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour.
