Officers on the NL57 Mountsorrel Beat would like to make residents aware of a recent increase in burglary offences in neighbouring villages, including Cropston and Thurcaston.

The recent incidents suggest that offenders are specifically targeting properties that are unoccupied and currently undergoing renovation. Items being stolen include newly installed or stored white goods, such as fridges, ovens and washing machines.

Entry has been gained by offenders using a variety of methods including:

Lock snapping

Dismantling door hardware

Lock picking techniques

While these offences have occurred in neighbouring areas, we are sharing this information to ensure residents in Mountsorrel remain vigilant and take preventative steps.

If you own, manage, or are renovating a property, please consider the following measures:

Ensure doors are fitted with high-quality, anti-snap locks (BS3621 standard where possible)

Install alarms or temporary security systems in empty properties

Consider CCTV or video doorbells

Use timer switches on lights to give the impression the property is occupied

Avoid storing or leaving new appliances in view

Arrange for regular property checks

Secure windows and consider additional reinforcement if vacant long-term

Keep records of serial numbers and photographs of valuable items
