We have recently received a number of reports of bicycle thefts on the ward. We are asking residents to take a few simple steps to help reduce the risk and keep your property safe. How to protect your bikeThe Metropolitan Police recommend the following: Use two locks (ideally a high-quality D-lock and a second lock) to slow thieves downLock the frame and both wheels to a secure stand or immovable objectKeep your bike close to the stand so tools canβt easily be usedPark in well-lit, busy areas with CCTV wherever possible Remove parts like lights or the saddle if left unattended Register and mark your bikeRegister your bike on a police-approved database (e.g. BikeRegister) so it can be traced if recoveredSecurity mark your bike β this acts as a visible deterrent and helps prove ownership Donβt forget home securityBikes are often taken from gardens, sheds and communal areasLock your bike securely at home just as you would in public Report theft or suspicious activityIf your bike is stolen or you see suspicious behaviour: Report online: π https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/ Call 101 for non-emergency reportsCall 999 if a crime is happening now or someone is in dangerReport anonymously via Crimestoppers: π https://crimestoppers-uk.org or call 0800 555 111 What to look out forPlease report if you notice: People trying door handles on bikes or tampering with locksIndividuals carrying tools around bike racksSuspicious activity in cycle storage areas Please click here to complete the survey
