Two prolific phone theft suspects arrested following City Centre thefts |
||
|
Following a series of thefts from persons across Manchester city centre nightlife venues, officers from the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team have carried out extensive enquiries which have now led to the identification and arrest of two prolific offenders.
At least 13 victims had their mobile phones stolen during these incidents. Thanks to proactive patrols and detailed investigative work, one suspect was arrested after attempting to return to the city centre nightlife area, with a second suspect arrested following further enquiries by officers.
Both individuals have since been placed on strict bail conditions whilst the investigation continues and a charging decision is considered by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
The arrests follow significant behind-the-scenes work by officers involving CCTV enquiries, intelligence gathering, suspect identification and partnership working across the city centre.
Sgt Hare, form the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Phone thefts can have a massive impact on victims and we understand the frustration and distress this type of crime causes. I would like to personally recognise the hard work and dedication shown by PC Jack Pennington, who has worked tirelessly on this investigation alongside Operation Custodian officers and our partners. His proactive approach and determination have been instrumental in identifying and locating those responsible. We have absolutely zero tolerance for this type of offending in Manchester city centre and we will continue carrying out proactive patrols and targeted operations to protect the public and keep people safe on nights out.”
We continue to encourage members of the public to remain vigilant with personal belongings and report any suspicious behaviour to police or security staff immediately. | ||
