**Water Safety Advice** |

|
🌊 Rivers Aren’t as Calm as They Look Rivers and canals may seem peaceful, but they hide some of the most serious water dangers. Many people who drown in inland water never meant to go in. Stay well back from the edge and stick to proper paths — riverbanks can collapse without warning, especially after bad weather. ❄️ Strong Swimmer? Open Water Still Puts You at Risk Even confident swimmers can get into trouble outdoors. Cold water shock can overwhelm breathing and movement in seconds, even on warm days. Fast‑moving currents and hidden debris can trap or injure. Competence in a pool doesn’t equal safety in open water. If you fall in unexpectedly, remember Float to Live: lean back, spread your arms and legs, relax, and control your breathing. 🍺 Nights Out + Water = Real Danger Most river emergencies happen suddenly and during everyday moments — including walking home after a night out. Alcohol affects balance, awareness and decision‑making, and is a major factor in accidental drownings. Look out for your friends, avoid routes close to water, and steer others away from the edge. If someone is in trouble: Call, Tell, Throw — call 999, tell them to float, and throw something that helps them stay afloat. Please enjoy the warm weather safely.
