Life facial recognition deployment - Woolwich Town Centre

A Live Facial Recognition (LFR) operation was conducted in Woolwich Town Centre within the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The deployment formed part of ongoing proactive policing activity aimed at identifying individuals wanted for serious offences and enhancing public safety.

The operation resulted in a total of 11 arrests. These included:

2 arrests for possession of offensive weapons

2 arrests for burglary offences

A further 7 arrests relating to various other outstanding matters, including recall to prison and failure to appear at court

All arrests were supported by subsequent officer engagement and identity verification following LFR system alerts. The deployment was conducted in line with current legal frameworks and operational guidance governing the use of facial recognition technology.

The operation contributed to the disruption of criminal activity in the area and demonstrated the continued effectiveness of LFR as a tool in identifying wanted individuals and reducing harm within the community.
