Burglary Prevention Advice – Homes Under Renovation

Is your home currently under renovation or having building work carried out?

We have seen an increase in burglaries at properties under renovation, with both homeowners’ belongings and contractors’ tools being targeted. Offenders may assume these properties are easier to access or temporarily unsecured.

To reduce the risk, please:

Ensure your home remains secure at all times, including doors, windows and outbuildings

Install temporary security measures where possible (locks, alarms, motion lights)

Avoid leaving valuable items on display

Ask contractors not to leave expensive tools or equipment on site overnight

Consider removing high‑value items from the property during works

If you notice suspicious behaviour near a property under renovation, please report it. In an emergency call 999; otherwise contact police via 101.
