Summer Safety Advise - Wimbledon town centre & Dundonald Ward |
||
|
Dear Residents, As we move into the summer period, we typically see an increase in footfall across Wimbledon Town Centre and surrounding areas. While this is a great time for the community to enjoy the warmer weather, it is also important to remain mindful of personal safety and crime prevention. We would like to share some practical advice to help you protect yourself, your property, and those around you: Personal Safety ● Stay aware of your surroundings, particularly in busy areas and when using public transport ● Keep personal belongings (phones, wallets, bags) secure and out of easy reach ● Avoid displaying high-value items unnecessarily in public Home Security ● Ensure all doors and windows are locked when leaving your property, even for short periods ● Do not leave windows open or valuables visible, especially during warmer weather ● Consider using timer switches for lights if you are away ● Install motion-sensor lighting or CCTV where possible Gardens & Rear Access ● Secure side gates and rear entrances with appropriate locks ● Avoid leaving tools or ladders accessible, as these can be used to gain entry ● Work with neighbours to monitor and secure shared access routes Vehicle Safety ● Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle, even if out of sight ● Ensure your vehicle is locked and windows are fully closed ● Be mindful when parking in busy or unfamiliar areas Community Awareness ● Look out for your neighbours, particularly those who may be more vulnerable ● Report any suspicious behaviour promptly via 101, or 999 in an emergency ● Consider joining or setting up a local neighbourhood watch scheme Our neighbourhood team will continue to carry out patrols and engage with the community throughout the summer period. If you have any concerns or would like further crime prevention advice, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Stay safe and enjoy the summer. Kind regards, PC Ansah Neighbourhood Policing Team Wimbledon Town Centre & Dundonald Ward
