Drugs Arrest. |

Dear Resident,
Firstly, I do try not to post too often—certainly not twice in one day—but I’m breaking my own rule for a good reason. Today, a member of staff from a shop on Bradshawgate stopped us in the street. They told us that they had seen a young male dealing drugs yesterday, and that they had seen the same male again today. They showed us an image of him, and we said we would take a look around the area. We relayed this information to one of our colleagues who was also on patrol in town. A very short time later, that colleague contacted me to say they had seen the male, who ran off upon seeing police. The male then appeared to be running in our direction—he actually ran straight around a corner towards us before suddenly turning around and heading off down another street. Unfortunately for him, we were just able to see him disappear into a nearby yard. We attended the yard and blocked all exits until our colleagues arrived. A 17-year-old male was then searched under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, during which a large quantity of cash, a large amount of drugs, and two mobile phones were located. The male was subsequently arrested for Possession with Intent to Supply. It was later discovered that this young person was also recorded as missing from West Yorkshire. From the moment the shop staff member stopped us in the street to the arrest taking place, the entire incident took around 45 minutes. Quite simply, this would not have happened if that member of staff had not taken the time to speak to us. Thank you—very, very much.
