A 60-year-old man from Ipswich has been jailed for breaching the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and for possessing indecent images of children.
David Landin, of Foxhall Road in Ipswich, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday 29 April, charged with two counts of breaching his SHPO and three counts of possessing indecent images of children.
He was sentenced to a total of two years’ imprisonment.
Landin, a registered sex offender, had been convicted in 2023 for attempting to incite a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. He was given a suspended sentence and handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Following his conviction, Landin was being managed by the Public Protection Unit.
He was arrested on 1 April 2026 after he was found to have a social media account he had not disclosed to police, which breached the terms of his SHPO.
Police attended his address and his phone was seized. Examination of this identified that Landin had over 15,000 messages relating to child sexual abuse, and evidence of deleted messages and history searches related to indecent images of children.
Printed copies of indecent images were also found hidden in his bedside drawers.
These were established as three category A images, four Category B images and 12 Category C images.
Landin was subsequently charged on 2 April 2026 in relation to these offences.
In addition to his sentence, an order was also enforced for the destruction of his mobile phone. He was also handed a revised Indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Public Protection Unit Officer Alice Barham said: “Landin is a disturbing individual with a clear interest in the sexual abuse of children.
“Court orders such as Sexual Harm Prevention Orders are there to protect the public. Our Public Protection Unit at Suffolk Constabulary ensures offenders on a SHPOs are closely monitored and adhere to the conditions imposed on them.
“Accessing or downloading indecent images of children is not a victimless crime.
Each image represents a child that has been abused. We will continue to bring those who possess and share such content to justice.”
