Local Priorities Road Safety Issues Concern Update |
||
|
Afternoon all,
Just thought I’d update you on the speed scoping that we’ve been doing in the Cyncoed area.
We attended Dan Y Heol 3 times over the course of several days and only witnessed vehicles using the street on a Wednesday at 9AM. The other two times we stayed for 15 minutes each and did not witness 1 single vehicle in the street. On the occasion that we did see vehicles, over the course of 30 minutes we witnessed 15 vehicles using the road, equalling 1 car every 2 minutes. The maximum speed we caught was 23mph. The lowest was 9. The average was a total of 14mph.
We had to attend Beatty Avenue on several different occasions also due to their being limited traffic using the road. In total we witnessed 70 vehicles. The maximum speed we caught was 27mph. The lowest was 7mph. The average was a total of 17mph.
Dan Y Coed was visited 2x also due to the low level of traffic. Officers witnessed a total of 97 vehicles over the course of two sessions. The highest speed was 29mph. The lowest being 15mph. The average totalled 20mph.
We witnessed 99 vehicles driving on Cyncoed Road. The max speed was 29mph. The lowest 14mph. The average 20mph.
The conversation we’ve had on our end is that Dan Y Heol is not a problem and that it would not be something we would look at again in the future without further evidence of speeding. Whilst officers observed that vehicles appeared to be going at quite some speed, when the gun was used, it transpired they were only going about 17-18mph. I understand that the street is narrow and with vehicles double parked, the speed of a car can appear to be a lot faster than it actually is. The street would benefit from being a 10mph speed limit but this is something the council would have to look at and for the community to agree with.
We will keep our eye on Beatty Avenue in the meantime, and we understand that Dan Y Coed and Cyncoed Road are always going to be a problem so patrols and speeding operations will continue as necessary.
These statistics have been shared with members of the council also.
Any further questions just drop me a message or an email and I’ll get back to you.
