I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Nuisance motorcycles, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Kent Police are aware of ongoing reports regarding the illegal use of non‑road‑legal motorbikes, Sur‑ron electric bikes and modified bicycles in the Barming area, including Heath Road, surrounding footpaths, woodland near Hermitage Quarry, and also within the Fant area, including Gatland Park. We want to reassure residents that these concerns are being actively addressed and form part of a planned police operation aimed at disrupting and deterring this behaviour, which poses a risk to pedestrians, park users, motorists and those working in these locations. As part of this operation, officers may not always be visible or operating in marked police vehicles. Please be assured that enforcement activity is ongoing and includes the use of unmarked vehicles and officers, allowing us to identify riders, their movements, and storage locations for the bikes being used. Where appropriate, officers will be using Section 59 Police Reform Act powers, which allow police to issue warnings and seize vehicles that are being used in a manner causing alarm, distress or annoyance. How residents can assist Information from the community plays an important role in tackling this issue. If residents witness illegal motorbike activity:
Call 999 if there is an immediate risk to life or safety Report incidents via 101 or online for non‑emergencies Photos or videos can be very helpful if it is safe to obtain them — please do not put yourself at risk or challenge riders Details such as times, locations, number of riders, bike descriptions and clothing are particularly useful
If you have information about where these bikes are being stored or housed, this can be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website. Reports to Crimestoppers are anonymous and not traceable. We recognise the impact this behaviour is having on local communities and appreciate the information already provided by residents. Continued reporting helps us build intelligence and take effective enforcement action. Thank you for your support.
If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.kent.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
