I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft - (shoplifting, personal, other), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A shoplifter has been jailed for 20 weeks after he stole items from a store and breached a Criminal Behaviour Order in Farnborough.
Daniel Parker, 41, of Aldwick Close, Farnborough, stole food and red wine worth £63.70 from M&S at the BP fuel station on Prospect Road on two separate occasions.
The first incident occurred on 23 April – just hours after he was handed a suspended sentence and three-year CBO at Basingstoke Magistrates Court for shoplifting at the same store.
The CBO banned him from entering fuel station and shop on Prospect Road and stated that he must place all items in baskets or trolleys and leave a premises if asked to do so.
He then returned the following day (24 April) and stole again. Officers were called and arrested and charged Parker.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop and breaching a CBO and was jailed for a total of 20 weeks at Southampton Magistrates Court on 25 April.
PC Lisa Attwood, from the Rushmoor District Policing Team, said: “We want to clear – our officers take reports of shoplifting extremely seriously and stealing items from stores in Rushmoor will not be tolerated.
“Daniel Parker’s behaviour has had a huge impact on shops, staff and the wider community. He was arrested, charged and was handed a Criminal Behaviour Order and a suspended sentence at court.
“But he brazenly ignored the order and returned the shop the same day and stole again. He was swiftly arrested, charged and put back before the courts and will now spend time in jail to face the consequences of his actions.”
