Brake publishes new Young Driver Safety report 77% of people support stronger driver licensing to protect young, newly qualified drivers and save lives. It’s time for the Government to take action! Tell them it’s time for change.
On 15 April 2026, Brake published their Young Driver Safety report. In it, they reveal that 35% of people have been in a crash with a young driver or know someone who has. That number increases to a staggering 54% among 18- to 24-year-olds. Every year, 4,740 people are killed or seriously injured in a crash involving a young driver. Half of those are other road users, like pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers or passengers of all ages*. Brake think this is unacceptable, and their research is very clear that the public is on o side – 77% of people back driver licensing reform in Britain to reduce deaths and injuries from crashes involving young drivers.
