Appropriate Adult Volunteering Opportunity Hertfordshire Youth Justice Service are recruiting for volunteers to act as Appropriate Adults for children/young people who are arrested and detained at the police station under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. This is an exciting opportunity for you if you are interested in the criminal justice system, the welfare of children and the provision of service without discrimination on any ground and you are willing to: Hertfordshire Appropriate Adult Scheme: The Hertfordshire Appropriate Adult Scheme is run by the Youth Justice Service. The scheme is a member scheme of the National Appropriate Adult Network. Youth appropriate adults are volunteers who are required to be present when children who are detained are interviewed and subject to other processes such as fingerprinting and signing documentation. Appropriate adults provide their availability to be called out or as back up for the upcoming month and go on a rota to attend either Hatfield or Stevenage police stations as required; on occasions they may be asked to attend other police stations. The police have a copy of the rota and contact the appropriate adults directly when required. Training and Support: The appropriate adult training consists of five modules of approximately 2 ½ hours duration, with some home study/tasks to complete between the modules. The first four sessions will be held at DARC 2, Greenhills, Tenzing Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 4HS. The final session will be held in the training rooms at Stevenage Police station, Lytton Way, Stevenage, SG1 1HF, which includes a question and answer panel session and visit to the custody area. Training dates: 6:00pm- Thursday 11th June at Tenzing Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 4HS 6.00pm- Wednesday 17th June at Tenzing Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 4HS 6.00pm- Thursday 25th June at Tenzing Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 4HS 6.00pm- Wednesday 1st July at Tenzing Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 4HS 6.00pm- Thursday 9th July at Stevenage Police Station Support meetings with a training element included are held every three months where you can meet with other appropriate adult volunteers.
