Contacting Police Regarding Crime-Related Information and Residential CCTV |
||
|
Your Safer Neighbourhood team are often asked how police can be made aware of residential CCTV that may be of interest following information seen on a local online or chat group.
We would like to clarify the correct process for sharing crime-related information with the police. While local online groups can be useful for community discussion, they are not monitored or used as an official method for reporting crime or intelligence. The police cannot rely on information posted on chat groups, and officers cannot make contact based solely on comments or posts seen online.
All crime-related information, including knowledge of relevant residential CCTV, must be reported directly to the police through official channels. This ensures information is recorded correctly, assessed promptly, and handled lawfully. Please use the following approved methods: When reporting, please clearly mention that you have residential CCTV footage that may help with an incident, including the location and approximate date and time.
Using these direct channels allows the police to respond appropriately and ensures that evidence, such as CCTV, can be identified and secured in line with legal and data protection requirements.
Thank you for your continued support and working together to keeping our community safe. | ||
