On Monday 13th April a 17-year-old male from St Austell appeared at Cornwall Magistrates Court. He was sentenced to 6 months detention at a Young Offenders Institution (YOI) for a number of offences committed in the county and on the railways. This included a number of offences in the St Austell area including burglaries at the Co-op, Bugle on 17th February and Tesco Express Pentewan Road, St Austell on 30th March where on both premises he entered staff only / behind the counter areas and stole items. He was also sentenced for shopliftings from Sports Direct, Truro Road on 9th April where he stole trainers whilst in possession of a knife. These incidents were distressing for shop staff to witness and we would like to pass our thanks for their assistance in providing statements and CCTV to support the male’s conviction.
