Added Police Presence in Kingston This Weekend |
||
|
As some of you may be aware, there was an incident in Kingston Town Centre (Old London Road) on the afternoon of Sunday 12th April. Police were called to Old London Road, near Richmond Road following reports of an assault. At the scene, a 16-year-old boy was found with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital, where his injuries have been confirmed as not life-threatening or life-changing. In response to this incident, there has been an increased police presence in Kingston Town Centre this week, and this will continue over the upcoming weekend. A Section 35 dispersal order has also been authorised for the area over the weekend period in the town centre. A Section 35 dispersal order gives police officers additional powers to direct individuals or groups who are causing, or are likely to cause, anti-social behaviour, crime or disorder to leave a specified area for up to 48 hours. Those directed to leave must not return to the area within that time. Failure to comply with a dispersal order is a criminal offence and may result in arrest. These powers are used to help prevent further incidents, reduce anti-social behaviour, and provide reassurance to the community. Officers will be actively engaging with members of the public, local businesses, and those visiting the town centre to ensure a visible and approachable policing presence. We encourage anyone with concerns to speak to officers on patrol, and to report any suspicious or anti-social behaviour so that appropriate action can be taken.
