π Scam Phone Calls β Awareness & PreventionGood afternoon. We are continuing to receive reports from residents about a high volume of scam phone calls π. π΅ Phone scams (also known as phishing) involve fraudsters contacting you by phone to trick you into revealing personal or financial information, or to pressure you into sending money. These calls can appear very convincing and may use number spoofing to look like they are coming from banks or government organisations π¦β οΈ. β Protect yourself: π¨ Bank scams are currently the most commonly reported. These typically involve a caller pretending to be from your bank, claiming there is fraud on your account and asking you to move money or provide sensitive details. Your bank will never ask you to do this. π΅π΄ Please check on elderly family members and neighbours and remind them: π Report suspicious calls: π To help reduce unwanted calls, landline and mobile users can register with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS): π https://www.tpsonline.org.uk π Members of the public can also remove their details from 192.com (directory enquiries) to reduce cold calls: π https://www.192.com/help/remove-your-details/ Taking these simple steps can help protect you and others from scams and fraud π€π | ||
