Community Concerns Answered: Police Take Action on E-Bikes and Drugs |
||
|
Officers from the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team have delivered another proactive day of policing, targeting key issues raised by the local community and businesses.
Working alongside honorary team member PC Milho from the Motorcycle Unit, officers conducted high-visibility patrols in the Gardens with a focus on the illegal use of e-bikes and immigration offending. Over a concentrated 90-minute period, officers stopped and searched more than 10 individuals, while a significant number of e-bikes were checked for road legality and compliance with 4 being seized.
During the patrol, officers witnessed a suspected drug deal taking place. Acting swiftly, PC Zamecnik detained a male child for a drugs search. A quantity of Pregabalin was located in his pocket, leading to his arrest on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. A further search in custody uncovered cannabis concealed under his clothing. Due to previous offending, the individual has since been charged with drug offences and bailed to attend court.
Elsewhere, PC Cross successfully arrested one of the Gardens’ most prolific offenders after a warrant had been issued for failing to appear at court, removing a persistent source of concern for those who live, work, and visit the area.
Sergeant Jon Wyatt, of the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We continue to listen closely to the concerns of our local community and businesses, who regularly tell us that illegal e-bike use is one of their priorities. Today’s activity reflects that feedback, and we will continue to take robust action where offences are identified. If there is anything you would like to make us aware of, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us.”
The Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Team remains committed to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, ensuring the area remains a safe and welcoming space for all.
