Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to share some crime prevention advice to help residents reduce the risk of criminal damage, vehicle crime and anti‑social behaviour in your area. While we continue to work closely with partner agencies, there are important steps everyone can take to help keep themselves and their neighbours safe.
🚗 Vehicle SecurityVehicle-related crime can often be prevented with simple precautions: Always lock your vehicle and ensure windows and sunroofs are fully closed, even if leaving it for a short time.Do not leave valuables on display. Remove bags, tools, dashcams, phone holders or coins, or keep them locked in the boot.Consider fitting a steering wheel lock, immobiliser or alarm to add an extra layer of security.Park in well‑lit areas, preferably where vehicles are covered by CCTV or overlooked by homes. If you have CCTV or a doorbell camera, ensure it is working, positioned correctly, and set to record during the night.
🏠Home and Property SecurityGood home security reduces opportunities for offending: Ensure all doors and windows are locked, including rear access points and sheds.Use sturdy locks approved to British Standards where possible.Keep hedges and trees trimmed so they do not provide cover for offenders.Consider external motion sensor lighting to deter suspicious activity.Secure bins, ladders and tools, as they can be used to gain access or cause damage.
👀 Community AwarenessResidents play a vital role in preventing crime: Be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour immediately. Trust your instincts—if something doesn’t feel right, report it.Get to know your neighbours and look out for one another. A strong community presence can deter anti‑social behaviour.Never confront suspicious individuals—your safety comes first.
