Community Speed Watch – Chapel‑en‑le‑Frith Safer Neighbourhood Team
Today, between 11:00am and 12:00pm, the Chapel‑en‑le‑Frith Safer Neighbourhood Team supported a Community Speed Watch session on Manchester Road, Chapel‑en‑le‑Frith.
During the one‑hour period, a total of 344 vehicles passed through the location, with 10 vehicles recorded travelling above the speed limit.
Community Speed Watch is a vital road safety initiative that focuses on education, visibility, and engagement rather than enforcement. Its purpose is to raise driver awareness of speed limits, encourage safer driving behaviour, and highlight the impact that excess speed can have on local communities, including pedestrians, cyclists, and residents.
Speed Watch sessions do not involve issuing fines or penalties. However, the data gathered helps the Safer Neighbourhood Team and partner agencies identify areas of concern and informs future road safety activity.
We would like to thank our Community Speed Watch volunteers for giving their time to support this initiative, and members of the public for their cooperation during today’s session.
