Vehicles may be parked or dumped on nearby streets, lay-bys, or estates

This is done to see if the vehicle has a tracker fitted

If the vehicle is not recovered quickly, it may then be moved on or stripped for parts

Old-style Land Rovers (especially Defenders and Series models) are very attractive to thieves—they’re simple, valuable, and easy to move if not properly secured.

Older Land Rovers often lack modern security, so visible deterrents are key:

Fit a high-quality steering wheel lock (e.g. Disklok-style)

Use a wheel clamp when parked overnight or long-term

Install a pedal box/lock to prevent clutch/brake use

Upgrade to lockable door handles and anti-tamper hinges

The goal: make your vehicle look like too much effort compared to others.

Even older models can benefit from modern tech:

Install an-approved immobiliser

Fit a tracked GPS device (hidden, subscription-based ideally)

Add a modern alarm system with siren

Consider a battery isolator switch (hidden kill switch)

Many stolen Defenders are taken in seconds—immobilisers stop that.

Where and how you park matters:

Park in a locked garage if possible

Use a driveway security post/bollard

Park nose-in with wheels turned (harder to tow)

Install motion lighting and CCTV

Avoid leaving it in the same visible spot long-term

Make your Land Rover traceable and less attractive to sell on:

Use forensic marking kits

Etch the VIN onto windows and parts

Mark removable components (doors, bonnet, wheels)

Display warning stickers—deterrence matters.
