Good morning all,

I am reaching out to address an issue that seems to occur time and time again within Lisvane and Thornhill. 

I am dealing with a situation in Thornhill where individuals knocking on the doors of elderly residents offering to carry out various work for them such as cutting the lawn, trimming hedges or repairing broken fences, all for what they claim to be a cheap price.

Unfortunately, what tends to happen is that some elderly residents do get caught out in that type of scam.  

In some cases, when residents express that they do not have cash on hand, these scammers will use the resident’s phones to call for an Uber, take them to a cash machine, and encourage them to withdraw money, which they then hand over. 

Regrettably, this often becomes the last time they see these individuals, leaving residents feeling confused and exploited.

I kindly ask that if you have elderly family members or guardians living alone, please take a moment to make them aware of these scams.

It is crucial that they understand the importance of not engaging with anyone they do not know, especially when it comes to unsolicited offers for help.

It is vital that we remain vigilant and informed about these kinds of scams, especially when they are targeting vulnerable residents. 

I kindly ask if you know any elderly residents who live alone and you could speak with them, I strongly encourage you to engage them in a conversation about the potential dangers of such scams.
