Moped and Vehicle Theft |
||
|
Good Morning Residents
Over the past week, we have seen a number of reported stolen mopeds and attempted vehicle thefts across the Tunbridge Wells area. These offences often happen quickly and are frequently committed by opportunists targeting vehicles with limited security.
To help reduce the risk of theft, police recommend a layered security approach, often summarised as “Lock, Chain, Cover.” Mopeds are lightweight and can be easily lifted or forced away, so relying on a steering lock alone is not sufficient, as it can be broken in seconds.
How to Protect Your Moped🔒 1. Lock & Chain – Physical Security Disc locks: Fit a disc lock to prevent the wheel from turning. Alarmed disc locks provide an extra audible deterrent.
Mark your moped: Forensic marking kits (such as Datatag or SelectaDNA) mark parts with your VIN or postcode, making them harder to sell on and easier to return if recovered.
Remove keys: Never leave keys in the ignition, even for a short time.
If you see suspicious behaviour or believe a theft is taking place, please report it immediately on 999.
By taking these simple steps and looking out for one another, we can help reduce moped and vehicle theft in our community.
If anyone has information relating to recent stolen mopeds, vehicles, please contact Kent Police on 101.
Kind regards
Danny Barnes
