Attempted Theft of Motor Vehicle - Bowling Green Lane, Buntingford

Dear Resident

Between 15:00 hours on Thursday 9th April and 05:15 hours on Friday 10th April, an attempted theft of a vehicle occurred in Bowling Green Lane, Buntingford.

Between these times, offenders have approached a locked and secures Red Ford Ka, and attempted to gain entry to the vehicle by drilling the lock. Entry was not gained and offenders made off in an unknown direction.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
