Beware of Doorstep Cold Callers
Not sure who’s at your door? Stay cautious — rogue traders and scammers often use unexpected visits to pressure or confuse residents.

Here’s how to stay safe:
 

You don’t have to open the door
If you’re not expecting anyone, it’s okay not to answer.
 

Always check ID
Genuine callers will be happy to show identification and wait while you verify it with their company.

Use a window or check your CCTV. Video doorbells are good for this reason. 
Never fully open the door to strangers – check before you open the door.

Never agree to work on the spot
Legitimate companies do not offer “today only” deals or doorstep discounts.

Don’t hand over money or bank details
Be wary of callers claiming they need “emergency” payments or deposits.

If in doubt – keep them out
Politely refuse and close the door. Report suspicious behaviour to 101 or 999 in an emergency.

Look out for neighbours
Vulnerable residents are often targeted. Share this message and keep your community safe.
