Orthodox Easter (Pascha)

Today sees the start of the Easter celebrations in the Orthodox Christian tradition.

Approximately 230 million people will be observing the event world wide.

Such is the importance of the event that a three day ceasefire has been announced in the current Russia/Ukraine conflict.

Today Manor Park officers attended the Good Friday service at the Saint Mary and Saint George Coptic Orthodox Church, Gladding Road E12.

We received a very warm welcome from Father Michael who took time to explain various aspects of the service.

This particular community are Egyptian Coptic Christians. Father Michael Explained that the beautiful chanting which formed such an integral part of the service dates back to the time of the Pharos.
