Friday 10th April 2026 Sussex Alerts - Lewes and Seahaven Police
Dear Residents,
Please find below the latest Sussex Alerts from Lewes and Seahaven Police.
Out walking the dog in the sunshine?
As spring arrives, many fields across Sussex are home to newborn lambs and calves.
Even the calmest dogs can unintentionally frighten or distress livestock, and dog owners can face unlimited fines if a dog chases or worries livestock, including sheep, cattle, llamas and alpacas.
These types of incidents can cause serious stress, injury, or loss of unborn young; as well as be very upsetting for farmers who have worked hard to care for their animals.
Please be a responsible dog owner:
-Always keep your dog on a lead around all livestock -If unsure what’s ahead, put your dog on a lead -Stick to public footpaths where possible, find local paths on footpathmap.co.uk
Thank you for helping protect animals, farmers, and the countryside this spring.
Operation Downsway
Already this month, a number of deployments have taken place across the coast, including in areas of Seaford and Peacehaven following concerns raised by residents.
Over the coming months residents can expect to see an increased police presence on the roads of the district as we continue to both enforce and educate drivers around the ‘fatal5’ driving offences; excess speed, not wearing a seatbelt, driving distractions ie: using your mobile or a hand-held device, drink and drug driving, and careless and inconsiderate driving.
The aim of the operation is to help in:
-Reducing the number of people who are killed or seriously injured on the roads of East Sussex -Reducing the number of reported incidents of anti-social driving -Increasing public confidence in local policing through increased visibility and patrols -Targeting those individuals who are prepared to drive on the roads in an anti-social or irresponsible manner.
Working together our Roads Policing Teams, the Casualty Reduction Team, and alongside partners including Community Speed Watch groups, officers will provide a high visibility presence across our road network to make sure law-abiding road users including drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists can do so with confidence and in safety.
The campaign will include regular speed checks and will target anti-social driving and riding and is in addition to checks and activities all year round.
We continue to encourage residents to alert us to road safety issues that are impacting their communities, and report incidents to us at the time online.
Sunshine and youth support in Newhaven
Earlier this week, local officers were out along the coast making the most of the sunshine while supporting a youth focused event at Drink and Dine on Newhaven High Street.
Hosted by Newhaven Youth Centre, the event brought together Police, Newhaven RNLI, as well as a number of other local groups and charities to create a relaxed and welcoming space for young people, families, and the wider community.
It was a great opportunity for residents to meet local officers and partners, pick up crime prevention tips and safety advice, and find out about the support available for young people along the coast, in addition to having some fun in the sun; from colouring and stickers to trying on police uniform and taking selfies.
Being out and about during half‑term is an important way to keep in touch with local youngsters and help them stay safe and supported, and we thank everyone who came along and hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did!
Enjoy the sunshine!
Keep your home safe this Spring
