I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. It has been another packed week for our Police officers working in Stevenage Town Centre and 9 Yards with a wide variety of jobs, engagements and results. As another great week for Policing has flown by, I would like to update you all with the following jobs below;
Police had attended Stevenage Emergency Services Day yesterday at 9 Yards, Stevenage which was a community engagement event to show members of the public what all the different services do as well as answering questions that the public had regarding the different roles. Police as well as Fire and Rescue, RNLI, St John’s Ambulance, Ambulance Service and Age Concern were all in attendance which made for a great event. It was also fun letting the families put me in the back of the Police Cell Van whilst saying "You're Nicked" before slamming the door. Some future Coppers in the making. I would like to extend my thanks to all of the emergency services for their attendance as well as the families that turned up for the event. Was a brilliant day all around with plenty of laughs and smiles.
Two suspects had been arrested in Stevenage Town Centre earlier this week after a fight erupted outside of Starbuck. Police attended the scene and arrested one male for affray and another male for affray and breach of their Community Protection Notice (CPN). Both have been released under investigation for the offences whilst further lines of enquiry are pursued.
A wanted male has been arrested in Stevenage Town Centre yesterday for burglary and Breach of their Community Protection Notice (CPN) after the suspect had been sighted in town. Police quickly attended the scene, affected the arrest and the suspect is currently in Police Custody whilst the investigation continues.
Daniel O’Donnell aged 47 of No Fixed Abode was arrested by Police for Breach of his Community Protection Notice (CPN) and Breach of bail. He was taken to Custody, whereby he was Charged by Police and remanded to Court. The matter will be heard at a later date by the courts.
A member of the public had flagged down a Police officer conducting their beat patrols after they had seen a fight in the town involving a knife. After the report was taken, Police found the suspect nearby the incident location and detained the male for a stop search. During the stop search, a knife was found on the suspect and he was subsequently arrested for affray and possession of an offensive weapon. The male was taken into custody and received an Adult Conditional Caution for Possession of a Pointed and Bladed Article and S4 Public Order Act (Putting someone in fear or provocation of violence).
A report had come to Police by a member of the public regarding a male exposing themselves at Stevenage Town Centre. The suspect was quickly identified, was arrested for indecent exposure and was taken into custody for questioning.
Two men were arrested on suspicion of burglary after a member of the public reported suspicious behaviour in Stevenage at the weekend. Police were called to a building site on Forster Way at around 8pm on Saturday the 4th of April following a call to the Force Communications Room. Officers attended and discovered a shed had been broken in to and building materials removed. Two men, from London, were arrested, questioned in custody and bailed, with conditions not to enter Hertfordshire, while enquiries continue.
Operation Scootherts continues in Stevenage totalling at 125 seizures of both E-scooters and E-bikes since the launch of the operation. I want to remind the public that to ride an E-scooter or specific E-bikes, a licence and insurance, is required in order to use them. As insurance cannot be ascertained, they are illegal to ride in a public place. We expect to see more people using them in the summer months which also means more seizures, more fines and more points. Don’t risk your licence.
 Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.herts.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
