That is all your street crime this week.
I was recently asked a question regarding what Police actually do about these crimes and what reassurance we can offer, especially relating to robberies on buses and snatches. We have recently acquired two PCSOs from TFL who are well versed in Bus crimes. They talk to bus staff regularly at the ASDA bus station to make sure they are up to date with what routes are having issues and patrol accordingly. Sadly, we can’t measure what crimes are prevented by our PCSOs just by simply being there but I know that they do. In regard to phone snatches, I can say that overt and covert snatch patrols do take place on Tollgate Road regularly by both Custom House and Beckton teams.. I often hear that locals never see Police. This a something that I have heard throughout my career. I assure you; we are out and about every single shift. Our PCSOs walk a minimum of 15000 steps a day and the Police Officers are out of the office 80% of the time. If we are not tasked to a specific job, then we are out proactively looking to keep you safe by patrolling crime hotspots and stopping and searching any suspicious individuals. Overall Crime is not as bad as it is perceived to be. There are estimated 17,124 people living in Beckton and only a very tiny percentage of people (This week, less than 0.05%) are a victim of street crime. I'm happy to address anything specific concerns you have. You can reach me here or at the Ward Panel Meetings if you like to see me face to face.
If you have any questions about anything at all, please get in contact. And I’ll get back to you ASAP.
