SECURITY – Locking internal doors when out of the house, especially if you have valuable items, is effective if someone does happen to break into your home. Safes are also a good way to secure your valuable items/jewellery within your home. They can be attached to the floor for added security.
If you back onto an alleyway, what does the security at your rear fence look like? Ensure the fence is the ‘right way round’ so that the horizontal batons on your fence face inward into your garden and cannot be used as a ladder (see image below). Trellis or spikey plants are also an effective way to prevent your fence being climbed over. DO NOT attach broken glass, aggressive metal fencing or barbed wire onto walls or fences to prevent climbing.
