Livestock Worrying- Strethill Rd, Coalbrookdale |
||
|
Dear Resident, Did you know the law around the Protection of Livestock has changed? The change in law came into place last month, on Wednesday 18th March. Under the new law, a dog does not need to make physical contact with animals to commit an offence. Chasing or disturbing livestock can also cause harm. The change in law also means that the maximum fine for dog owners is now unlimited, replacing the old maximum of £1,000. Police can now seize and detain dogs suspected of attacking or worrying livestock, enter premises to seize dogs, and collect DNA evidence/ tooth impressions to assist in investigations. On Sunday 05th April, the Cuckoo Oak and Ironbridge Safer Neighbourhood Team conducted foot patrols along a public right of way via Strethill Road, Coalbrookdale. This is due to recent reports of livestock worrying, whereby on at least two separate occasions one ewe and one lamb have died. The purpose of the patrols is about educating dog walkers and preventing any further incidents. This is not about restricting dog walking but making sure people can continue to enjoy the great outdoors with the safety and welfare of livestock at the forefront. We would advise dog walkers to; For more information about the law changes visit the Government website here- https://orlo.uk/j6RbN Kind Regards, Amy (PCSO Newbrook 40337).
