Passover period

Dear residents, 

Ahead of the Passover period we wanted to share an update from Commander James Conway who is leading the Passover policing plan across London:

“Following the horrific arson attack in Golders Green last Monday, you will have seen we stepped up our patrols and vigilance to reassure our Jewish communities at a time of heightened concern and tensions.  

“As we head into the Passover period, this enhanced presence will remain, and we wanted to outline what this means.

“You will continue to see more officers on foot patrol and in vans. Across London we have an additional 264 officers alongside our existing neighbourhood officers, operating on 12-hour-rotations. They will be focused around areas including synagogues, high streets, and community venues. And of course, we continue to partner with the CST and Shomrim, who have joined us on patrols.

“Our officers are there to protect communities, disrupt offenders and detect crime. Please do not be alarmed if you see them, they will be coming to say hello and listen to any concerns you have.

“They will also be supported by armed officers in targeted locations. Although, it’s important to stress these are precautionary measures and not in response to a specific threat. We also have Operation Servator deployments, these are uniformed and plain clothed officers in areas of high footfall. The difference between this and other deployments is that they involve officers who are specially trained to identify individuals who may be planning or preparing to commit a criminal act.

“And we’re using the technology at our disposal to help keep you safe, including proactive drone patrols in high-risk areas, they are also able to respond to 999 calls.

“Since the terrorist attacks of 7, October 2023 we have increased patrols around synagogues, community venues and schools. Our plan for Passover significantly builds on this, but this isn’t a short-term plan, our engagement with Jewish communities will continue throughout this period and beyond. 

“We wish you all a joyful Passover with your families and friends.”

You may have also seen that further arrests have been made regarding the Golders Green arson investigation. Three individuals were all arrested early on Wednesday 1st April at three separate addresses in East London. All three were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life and have been taken to a London police station where they remain in police custody.
