SPEED ENFORCEMENT- COTTAM |
***SPEED ENFORCEMENT*** Good morning all, One of your top reported priorities in your area is road traffic issues, including speeding. The area of Hoyles Lane, Cottam has been highlighted as a specific concern from our partners at the Road Safety Partnership Team. As your neighbourhood team, we perform community road watch where we complete speed operations in the area that are 20/30mph.
Date of speed enforcement- 31/3/2026 Time of speed enforcement- 19.05pm- 19.35 Number of Vehicles passed- 25
Of those 25 vehicles which passed us 2 were caught exceeding the speed limit with the fastest recorded at 29mph. These motorists will be contacted in due course by the Road Safety Partnership Team with warning letters being sent through to them. Speeding remains one of the most significant contributors to serious road traffic collisions. It endangers not only the driver but also passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. The risks include: ๐ Reduced Reaction Time: At higher speeds, drivers have less time to respond to unexpected hazards such as pedestrians crossing, vehicles braking suddenly, or changes in road conditions. ๐ Longer Stopping Distances: The faster a vehicle travels, the longer it takes to stop. This increases the likelihood of collisions, especially in built-up or residential areas. โ ๏ธ Greater Impact Severity: Speed directly affects the force of impact in a collision. Higher speeds result in more severe injuries and a greater chance of fatalities. ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ Increased Risk to Vulnerable Road Users: Children, the elderly, cyclists, and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable. A pedestrian struck at 30mph has a far higher chance of survival than one struck at 40mph. ๐จ Reduced Vehicle Control: Excessive speed can lead to loss of control, especially in poor weather, on bends, or when manoeuvring around obstacles.
