We’re reminding residents to stay vigilant following a recent spate of outbuilding burglaries, where offenders have cut padlocks and stolen tools and equipment from sheds, garages, and garden stores.

To help protect your property, please take a few simple steps:

🔐 Strengthen Your Security

Use closed‑shackle padlocks – these have minimal exposed metal, making them far harder for offenders to cut.

Check that shed and garage doors, hinges, and frames are in good condition and not easily forced.

🛠️ Property Marking Works

Marking your tools and equipment helps deter theft and makes it easier for police to return items if they’re recovered.

You can:

Engrave your postcode and house number.

Use a UV pen for discreet marking.

Apply forensic marking kits (e.g., SmartWater or SelectaDNA) that leave a traceable code.

Keep an inventory of your tools and take photos - this greatly helps with identification and insurance claims.
