Good morning Riverside Beat,

Moving into the Spring, the beat team now have fresh priorities to focus on. One of our priorities will be Theft of Cycles / Cycle Crime.

Aim

With the days becoming longer and the spring weather arriving, more people begin to use alternative methods to commute to work and travel around the city. Unfortunately, this also creates increased opportunities for offenders if bikes are not properly secured.

Actions

To tackle cycle‑related crime, the team will be:

Attending heavy‑traffic areas in high visibility to deter offenders and check safety measures put in place for users of bike racks and storage facilities.

Holding Bike Register events to improve the chances of lost or stolen cycles being returned to their owners.

Giving prevention advice and safety tips to help keep property secure.

Assisting criminal investigations to identify and apprehend offenders wherever possible.

Visiting major workplaces and commuter locations—such as Leicester Royal Infirmary and De Montfort University—to offer safety advice to regular bike users.

This list is not exhaustive, and all actions relating to this priority will be documented as the work progresses.
