On Thursday, 26th March at approximately 1800hrs, local Officers were conducting reassurance patrols around the Excel footprint when they had cause to attend Tesco Metro on Western Gateway E16. While attending, Officers supported Retail Security staff who were detaining a young male for theft. The detained suspect was subjected to a search under Section 1 of PACE (Police And Criminal Eveidence Act 1984), but became resistant. Officers were forced to restriain the suspect to complete their search whereupon a large kitchen knife (in a homemade sheath) was found inside his waistband. In addition to the weapon a large quantity of drugs were also discovered. The youth was arrested for Possession of an Offensive Weapon and Possession of Drugs with intent to Supply. The youth was returned to Leyton Police Station. |
