🚴‍♂️ Cyclists on Our Rural Roads – Visibility, Safety & Shared Responsibility! 🌞🌳

☀️ With the improving weather, we’re seeing more cyclists out enjoying our beautiful rural roads across Rutland. It’s great to see people out keeping active! 

Whether you’re cycling or driving, a little extra awareness makes a big difference. 

Cyclists – Be Seen, Be Safe 🚴‍♂️

👕✨ Wear bright or reflective clothing 

🔦🚨 Use front and rear lights 

🪖 Wear a helmet  – not a legal requirement, but it massively reduces the risk of serious head injury

📵 Stay alert – keep distractions to a minimum so you're ready for unexpected vehicles, animals or uneven road surfaces

🚴‍♀️➡️ Ride predictably – avoid sudden swerves and make your intentions clear. Take extra care on narrow bends and single‑track roads 

🗺️ Know your route – some country lanes have tight bends, loose gravel, potholes, or limited visibility.

Drivers – Please Look Out for Cyclists 🚗

🚗↔️🚴 Give at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) when overtaking a cyclist at up to 30mph 

 🌬️ Give even more space at higher speeds

🪞 Check mirrors and blind spots – especially before turning or pulling out

🛑 Be patient on narrow rural roads and only pass when it’s genuinely safe 

👀 Expect cyclists around bends, dips and popular routes

🌼 Whether you’re walking, cycling, riding a horse, or driving, our rural roads are shared spaces.

🌳 A moment of patience or an extra glance could prevent a life-changing collision.

💚 Let’s keep Rutland safe, considerate, and enjoyable for everyone using our beautiful countryside routes.
