๐ดโโ๏ธ Cyclists on Our Rural Roads โ Visibility, Safety & Shared Responsibility! ๐๐ณ |
||
|
โ๏ธ With the improving weather, weโre seeing more cyclists out enjoying our beautiful rural roads across Rutland. Itโs great to see people out keeping active! Whether youโre cycling or driving, a little extra awareness makes a big difference.
Cyclists โ Be Seen, Be Safe ๐ดโโ๏ธ
๐โจ Wear bright or reflective clothing ๐ฆ๐จ Use front and rear lights ๐ช Wear a helmet โ not a legal requirement, but it massively reduces the risk of serious head injury ๐ต Stay alert โ keep distractions to a minimum so you're ready for unexpected vehicles, animals or uneven road surfaces ๐ดโโ๏ธโก๏ธ Ride predictably โ avoid sudden swerves and make your intentions clear. Take extra care on narrow bends and singleโtrack roads ๐บ๏ธ Know your route โ some country lanes have tight bends, loose gravel, potholes, or limited visibility.
Drivers โ Please Look Out for Cyclists ๐
๐โ๏ธ๐ด Give at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) when overtaking a cyclist at up to 30mph ๐ฌ๏ธ Give even more space at higher speeds ๐ช Check mirrors and blind spots โ especially before turning or pulling out ๐ Be patient on narrow rural roads and only pass when itโs genuinely safe ๐ Expect cyclists around bends, dips and popular routes
โ We All Have a Part to Play
๐ผ Whether youโre walking, cycling, riding a horse, or driving, our rural roads are shared spaces. ๐ณ A moment of patience or an extra glance could prevent a life-changing collision. ๐ Letโs keep Rutland safe, considerate, and enjoyable for everyone using our beautiful countryside routes.
Letโs all do our bit to share the road respectfully and help everyone get home safely. ๐ผ๐ดโโ๏ธ๐
There will also be a visible police presence at the 20th Rutland Mens International Cicle Classic on Sunday 26th April 2026. We look forward to seeing you all there!
