Dear Resident,
On Saturday the 14th of March, Hertsmere Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and Herts Roads Police Unit (RPU) worked together to track down a vehicle that was believed to have committed a burglary outside of the county. The vehicle entered Hertsmere and was traced and stopped in Winterberry Place, Hatfield. A search was conducted, uncovering tools. cloned plates, cannabis gummies and class A powder.
Both the driver and passenger were arrested on suspicion of burglary, going equipped to steal and possession of class A and B drugs. The driver was also arrested for driving whilst over the prescribed limit of drugs and driving without insurance. The vehicle has been seized for being used in crime. Meanwhile the passenger is now being dealt with after having an outstanding court warning (fail to appear for dangerous driving)

Tips to prevent burglary:
Check downstairs windows and doors are securely locked before you leave or go to bed. Secure UPVC doors by lifting the handle and locking it to engage the security features. Don’t leave keys, phones or other valuables on windowsills or in any other visible place. Securely lock rear gates, sheds and garages. Keep tools and ladders locked away, as they could be used to break into your home. Use laminate glass where possible for any rear doors or windows. If this is not practicable, consider the use of security film over existing windows. Use a “Fake TV” or timer switches on lamps to give the impression someone is at home. Consider using a doorbell camera, interior camera, or a monitored burglar alarm. Consider adding trellis to any side or rear boundaries to add extra height up to a maximum of 2 metres.
Please be vigilant and do report any suspicious activity or behaviour in the area. If you need to report a crime please call 101 or go online here.
