New Fatal Five Team first month round-up

More than 150 tickets have been issued for traffic offences across Sussex since Sussex Police’s Fatal Five Unit launched on 29 January.

The team have also seized more than 30 vehicles for no insurance, made more than 20 arrests and supported more than 25 Community SpeedWatch sessions where speed has been identified as an issue.

Locally in East Sussex this includes the results from Alfriston, Nutley and Heathfield.

The Fatal Five Unit was set up specifically to tackle the five most common causes of fatal and serious injury collisions:

Further arrests made as part of ongoing investigation into an arson attack at a mosque in Peacehaven, led by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE)

Three people have been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into an arson attack at a mosque in Peacehaven, led by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE).

A 36-year-old man from Eastbourne was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson, a 38-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of malicious communications and criminal damage and a 42-year-old man from Saltdean, was arrested on suspicion of malicious communications and encouraging or assisting a crime, contrary to section 45 of the Serious Crime Act 2007.

On 4 October last year, an incident took place during which it was reported that a fire was ignited outside the mosque in Phyllis Avenue. Two people inside the mosque escaped uninjured.

CTPSE has been investigating the incident and made the arrests on Tuesday 24 March, supported by officers from Surrey and Sussex Police’s Major Crime Unit.
