Dozens of local people from across the Mercia policing beat area attended a packed meeting about highways works and road safety last night, (Thursday 26 March).
Residents from local villages – including Repton, Willington, Newton Solney, Milton and Bretby – gathered at Repton Village Hall to listen to a detailed presentation from highways officials, with people fully engaged throughout. Representatives from local parish councils and community speed watch teams were also present.
Locals had the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences following recent road works in our villages.
The meeting, which was organised and chaired by Councillor Matt Benfield from Derbyshire County Council, was supported by Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).
With road safety being a top priority for South Derbyshire’s policing teams, it was also a good opportunity for your local officer to listen to concerns about speeding vehicles, hazardous zebra crossings and risks of anti-social behaviour at a fast-food establishment.
Councillor Benfield will now take villagers’ thoughts about future road works and safety improvements forward to the highways department to secure meaningful improvements.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such an important conversation.
