Good News Several prolific shoplifters have been arrested and charged with theft during this time and another one today.
Distraction Burglary On 23rd of March around 17:45 on ASTLEY WALK, SHIRLEY, SOLIHULL, A male wearing a facemask came to the door saying he was doing work on the back. He wanted to come in and go under the sink. Fortunately, the resident was suspicious and refused entry and called the police. If you have any concerns of bogus officials, please read the attached guidelines at the end of the letter. If concerned, please call 999 or 101.
Local crime Below is a snapshot of the vehicle crime and burglaries that have been recorded in the Shirley area between Wednesday 18th March and Thursday 26th March 2026.
Burglary On 19th of March between 15:30 – 15:43 on COLEBROOK CROFT, SOLIHULL, 4 Unknown males dressed in all black had forced entry to the garage of the offence location, gained entry but nothing had been stolen.
Vehicle crime:
On 17th – 18th of March between 21:30 – 07:55 on COLEBROOK ROAD, SOLIHULL, Unknown offender(s) has approached parked blue Kia Niro and used unknown means to enter the vehicle and made good their escape.
On 17th – 18th of March between 20:00 – 09:00 on SKELCHER ROAD, SOLIHULL,unknown offender(s) has approached parked/secured black Ford Fiesta and used unknown means to enter the vehicle and made good their escape.
On 21st of March between 14:30 – 14:40 on PARKGATE, ASDA, SHIRLEY STRATFORD ROAD, SOLIHUL, A group of 8 males all wearing balaclavas entered the underground car park at ASDA Parkgate. They then stole a moped and took it all the way to Green Lane Park where they struggled to get the moped started and so had set it on fire before making good their escape on 4 mopeds.
On 22nd of March between 01:51 – 01:55 on PETERBROOK ROAD, SOLIHULL, Unknown Person was seen trying the door handle of a vehicle. Once the security lights/camera came on the offender then left the car and walked in an unknown direction.
Crime prevention advice Please consider purchasing a steering wheel lock for your vehicle. This will decrease the chances of your vehicle being targeted by offenders. Also remember to double check that your vehicle is locked, before leaving it unattended. Installing an immobiliser and covert tracking device will also increase the chance of getting your vehicle back should it be stolen. Please don’t leave valuable items on show inside your vehicle. Even loose change can be appealing to vehicle offenders. - For crime prevention tips to keep your shed and garage safe please visit our website at https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/protect-home-crime/secure-shed-garage/ . - Consider installing anti-snap locks to all external windows and doors on your home. This will make it more difficult for potential burglars to gain access to your home. Installing a monitored burglar alarm is also a great deterrent. Try to make the front and rear of your property as well-lit as possible by installing motion activated lighting. - CCTV is a great deterrent for offenders. This can also be crucial in linking criminals to multiple crimes.

BE AWARE: Distraction burglaries have been reported in this area. We’ve seen an increase in daytime distraction burglaries where elderly and vulnerable residents being targeted by burglars pretending to be from waterboard and drain company officials. Please help us to stop this from happening again by following the advice below. Please call us on 101 if you have seen anyone acting suspiciously in this area.
Burglars won't go to the trouble of breaking in if they can just knock and be invited in. So always be on your guard when anyone you're not expecting - a man, a woman or even a child - turns up at your door. Bogus 'officials' may be smartly dressed and claim to be from the council, gas board, health authority or other organisation.
Bogus 'dealers' may offer to buy your antiques, furniture or jewellery, at what seems to be a good price. If you want to sell something, choose one or two genuine dealers to value it or ask a friend or relative for their advice.
Bogus 'workmen' may say that they need to come in to check something or make urgent repairs. You also need to be careful of callers who offer to make building repairs or tarmac your drive. Often, they'll ask for money in advance; they may even offer to drive you to the bank to withdraw money to pay them.
If you need any building work done, get several written quotes from reputable firms, then decide which one is best. If in doubt, talk it through with a neighbour or someone in your family.
Genuine callers will normally make an appointment first and will carry identification with their photograph on. REMEMBER! If someone calls at your door: Check to see who it is through your spyhole, or look through a front window. Always put the chain on before you open the door, keep this on until you have confirmed the caller is official. Check to see if the callers have a uniform bearing their organisation's name or symbol. Does the caller have ID or confirmation paperwork? Check this carefully, genuine callers won't mind if you close the door while you do this. Ensure your back door is locked if you are answering the door to someone you don't know.
What to do if you feel intimidated or suspicious: Trust your instincts, your safety is the most important. Do not invite the caller in or ask them to come back later so you can confirm their identity with their organisation. Call your neighbours and friends for support if in doubt. Call the police on 999 in an emergency, or 101 if you want to report suspicious activity. Never let anyone in unless you are absolutely sure they are genuine.
