Burbage Police Weekly Update. Youth Related Issues, Cold Caller Scams And Please Report Crime Correctly. |
||
|
Hello Resident,
We hope you are well. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage this week.
Reported Crime and Appeals
Report of suspicious activity on Sketchley lane at around 03:30 on the morning of the 23rd. A suspect was seen in a garden with a torch; it appears they were looking around building materials. Please be mindful that if you have products like this, tools or machinery, please ensure you do what you can to secure them (remove tools from sites overnight and weekends, consider CCTV and extra outdoor lighting etc).
Damage caused to fencing around the trees planted on the Queens Jubilee in Far lash park. It appears a group of youths playing football in this area have entered the cordoned off area to get the football back, they have also then returned to swing of damaged fencing. We are working with Hastings High to identify those involved. This type of behaviour shows a lack of respect for the local area, where work is ultimately being done to keep Burbage a friendly and pleasant place to live. We will be completing some home visits this week.
We are dealing with a report regarding cold calling where “traders” are door knocking at addresses that they perceive to be elderly and/or vulnerable, offering to buy vehicles off the drive, and then telling people the roof needs repairing. We have spent a lot of time investigating these reports and supporting residents with safeguarding concerns. Please look out for elderly family, neighbours and friends to ensure they do not fall victim to these types of people.
I have attached some really useful information around scams/fraud which has been kindly provided to us by the specialist fraud team at Leicestershire Police. Please feel free to share or download this information.
Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement
We are getting reports again of dangerous driving and inconsiderate parking in Burbage around school areas. We continue to patrol, work with schools and try to challenge those involved.
We have spent a considerable amount of time this week dealing with youth related anti-social behaviour and visiting schools to support with investigations. We have a few plans over the coming weeks and months where assemblies will be completed to ensure all youths are aware of what bad behaviour is and the consequences of it.
It has been a very busy few days in Burbage. Since our last update, there has been 43 calls to Police since the 20th, of which 9 were emergency and 10 were priority calls. Calls include violence against a person, domestic, concerns for welfare and transport issues.
Crime prevention and issues to be aware of
Please see the attachments at the bottom of this email. They include the little book of big scams, romance fraud, phone scams and push payment fraud.
Please ensure any crimes or reports are reported immediately and by the correct routes, not just posted on Facebook. You can call 101 for non-emergency, 999 emergency or you can create an online report via the Leicestershire Police website. Home | Leicestershire Police
The better weather (other than todays snow in Burbage) has resulted in increased youth related issues. Please be assured that we are working hard to identify anyone involved in reported incidents such as abuse to residents and criminal damage.
Please continue to review home and vehicle security in the run up to the Easter holidays. Remove cash and jewellery if you are going aware. Use light timers and ensure vehicles are locked and secured. Consider CCTV, lighting and steering locks.
Thank you and take care.

We need your help to keep our phone lines clear for emergencies. If your call isn't an emergency, see if the information or service you need is on our website www.leics.police.uk. before you call 101. You can use our website to report crimes or incidents at a time convenient for you. We urge you to call 999 in an emergency - if you or someone else are in immediate danger, or a crime is in progress.
