I wanted to provide you with an update regarding dangerous driving and speeding, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. YOU SAID… WE DID… SPEED WATCH.
Today, Herne Hill Safer Neighbourhood Officers carried out a targeted speed enforcement operation to help keep your roads safe.
Road safety concerns have been raised to your local Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) officers, and road safety has been identified as one of our key ward priorities. We want you to know that we hear these concerns, we understand them, and we are committed to taking action to protect everyone in our community.
Officers were positioned outside Jessop Primary School along Milkwood Road SE24 using a speed detection device, focusing on drivers exceeding the speed limit in this busy area. Several vehicles were identified and dealt with for speeding offences.
Road safety, especially near schools, is priority for us. We will continue to carry out operations to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians. We would like to thank those drivers who are already driving responsible and helping to keep our roads safe.
In addition, to this operation, Herne Hill officers conducted patrol across other areas of the ward, stopping and dealing with further vehicles found speeding. This forms part of a wider effort to tackle road safety issues across the whole community, not just one location.
We understand the speeding is a key concern raised by residents, and operations like this are directly informed by feedback from our community. By carrying out visible enforcement, we aim not only to address offences but also to act as a deterrent and encourage safer driving behaviours.
Please remember to drive within the speed limit and stay alert at all times.
Kind regards, Herne Hill and Loughborough Junction SNT -PC Sakuna JIAMSUNTIA 3186AS
If someone is driving a motor vehicle, they should always be doing so in a safe and considerate manner. Even momentary lapses in judgement can have life changing or devastating consequences for those in the vehicle or innocent bystanders. Activities such as street racing, cruising or performing tricks can count as anti-social behaviour.
