Dear Residents and Local Businesses, here is your weekly update from your local neighbourhood Policing Team, Stoke and Wyken. Activity Officers have been actively patrolling ASB hotspots as well as local parks and shops in the Stoke and Wyken area, it's been great to see so many friendly faces, don't forget to say hello when you see us around! With warmer summer months just around the corner, we will be out and about in stride on bicycles! Our green spaces always include Caludon Castle Park, Stoke Green, Barras Heath, The Lindfield, Tick Tock Park, Wyken Croft Nature Park and parts of the River Sowe. Staying Safe This Ramadan 2026 Ramadan Mubarak to everyone in Coventry! As the holy month begins, we want to make sure it’s a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable time for all our residents. Here’s how we’ll be supporting you—and some simple ways you can help too.
What We’re Doing in Coventry Extra patrols in busy areas – Our local teams will be out and about around mosques, community centres, and popular evening gathering spots. You’ll see more uniformed officers to reassure residents and deter any trouble. Working with the community – We’re in regular contact with local mosques, faith leaders, and community groups so we can respond quickly to any concerns. Keeping Eid celebrations safe – Towards the end of Ramadan, especially on Chaand Raat and Eid, we’ll have extra officers in place to make sure everyone can celebrate safely and that roads stay clear. How You Can Help Drive considerately – Traffic can be heavier just before and after Iftar. Please slow down, avoid parking illegally, and watch out for pedestrians crossing to and from mosques. Look out for each other – If you see unsafe driving, anti-social behaviour, or anything that feels wrong, tell us. Call 101 for non-emergencies, or 999 in an emergency. Be a good neighbour – Keep noise to a minimum late at night and leave streets clean after gatherings. Stay healthy – Drink plenty of water between Iftar and Suhoor, get enough rest, and if you have a health condition, check with your GP before fasting. Our Message to Coventry Ramadan is about reflection, kindness, and community spirit. We’re here to make sure everyone feels safe while they worship, gather, and celebrate. If you need us, our local teams are only a call—or a friendly chat on the street—away. From all of us at Coventry Police: Ramadan Mubarak. The "Are You Mate Enough?" Campaign is a recurring initiative supported by West Midlands Police (WMP) to encourage friends to intervene and stop someone from drink driving.
"Are you mate enough to have a word when someone's had a few? Drink driving ruins lives. If your friend is planning to get behind the wheel after drinking, speak up. Offer to book them a taxi or take their keys. It might be an awkward conversation, but it could save their life or someone else's. #OpLimit" How to "Have a Word" Safely If you are out in town and suspect a friend is about to drive under the influence, WMP and road safety partners suggest: Intervene Early: Don't wait until they are at the car; have the conversation while they are still at the bar or party. Offer Alternatives: Suggest sharing a taxi, using public transport, or offering them a place to stay. Be Firm but Calm: Stay respectful to avoid a confrontation but be clear that you won't let them drive. The "Morning After": Remind them that they may still be over the limit the next morning, as alcohol takes time to leave the system. Reporting Drink Driving in Your Area If your intervention doesn't work and someone gets behind the wheel: In Progress: If you see someone drink driving right now in Coventry, call 999 immediately. Regular Offenders: If you know someone who regularly drink drives, you can report them 100% anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Submit Footage: If you have dashcam footage of dangerous driving related to drink or drugs, you can upload it to Operation Snap. Regarding the above... are you concerned about the impact of speeding motorists in your local area? Would you like to help us to tackle this issue where you live? Community Speed Watch is a national initiative were members of local communities, working with neighbourhood officers record details of speeding vehicles using detection devices. The motorists found to be ignoring the speed limit are issued with a warning letter reminding them of local speed limits and the dangers of speeding. If the vehicle is speeding excessively, they will also be reported for the offence which can lead to prosecution. People caught breaking the speed limit are written to about the risks of their dangerous driving. Repeat offenders receive a visit from the local police and could face criminal prosecution. This community led initiative helps to raise awareness of road safety, which we know is a local concern All patrols are conducted with an officer from your local policing team. Arrests The Stoke & Wyken neighbourhood team have not had any arrests this week due to being abstracted onto various taskings around Coventry, however we have been actively patrolling our hot spot areas to ensure the safety of both our public and businesses. Nature Watch We do not have any nature watch stories this week unfortunately, however we value the stories you share with us, and we will continue to share these with the community when we have them. Thank you all for your feedback regarding locking your vehicles, we are very pleased to hear that it has been making a positive impact in our community, rest assured we will be sending more of these messages.
