Is Your Car Vulnerable to Theft?

Dear residents,
We are seeing a recent rise in vehicle thefts across the area, with offenders specifically targeting:

Toyota RAV4

Toyota CH‑R

Lexus NX

Method of Theft

Thieves are using a technique known as a CAMBus attack. This involves offenders accessing wiring behind the nearside (left) front wheel arch, close to the headlight. By attaching a device to this wiring, they are able to start the vehicle without needing the owner’s keys.

Signs Your Vehicle May Have Been Targeted

Please check your vehicle regularly. Common indicators of an attempted theft include:

Damage to the front left wheel arch

Damage or disturbance to the front bumper

Loose panels or evidence of tampering around the headlight area

How to Protect Your Vehicle

The most effective deterrent we are currently recommending is a high‑visibility steering wheel lock. This adds a physical barrier and significantly increases the time and effort required for thieves, often leading them to abandon their attempt.

Additional advice:

Park in well‑lit or covered areas where possible

Ensure your vehicle’s alarm/immobiliser systems are active

Consider installing a tracking device or secondary immobiliser

Report any suspicious activity immediately
