Glossop SNT - Community Speed Watch Conference 2026
PCSO Buller alongside Mrs Brenda Smith attended the annual Community Speed Watch Conference/Seminar, held on Saturday 14th March at Derbyshire Police HQ in Ripley. They were representing the Glossop & Hadfield CSW Volunteers.
The conference organiser and Community Speed Watch co-ordinator for Derbyshire Constabulary Mrs Debbie Turner had invited teams from across the county and city of Derby to come along to the venue being at the held in the Joint Training Centre.
Everyone was welcomed by the Derbyshire Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Fatima Eltinay, then we were given an update about Community Speed Watch including a CREST (Casualty Reduction Enforcement Support Team) update too.. This involved statistics and information about the previous year i.e. the increased number of volunteer teams - increased number of volunteers and the total number of events held in Derbyshire.
The seminar learned about the Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership from Mrs Vanessa Ball - what it does - what are its goals and how Community Speed Watch ties into the plans. We had in an input on Volunteers/Volunteering - on how to attract/keep them - to promote and identify the benefits of becoming a volunteer and how to encourage participation - by Mr Adrian Moorre of the South Derbyshire Volunteer Force.
The Volunteers were then addressed by PC Bennett & PC Harvey, who were representing Safer Neighbourhood teams, about how after and the process on receiving a third letter from Speed Watch that the driver is visited by Police Officers at their home address. They explained how impactive this was in the majority of cases.
There was a further update from Dr Fatima Eltinay (Dep Police and Crime Commissioner) about communities working together and alongside the Police to address speeding - which is one of the fatal four causes of serious and fatal road traffic collisions.
The Glossop & Hadfield CSW Volunteer team were one of several teams present that received a certificate of Recognition and Appreciation from Nicolle Ndiweni- Roberts (Police and Crime Commissioner) and Mrs Debbie Turner (Community Speed Wath Co-ordinator). The certificate read: ‘Thank you for your commitment over the years, and for all you have done for road safety - Your continued enthusiasm, hard work and dedication have been truly exceptional in teh suuccess of Community Speed Watch’ - so ‘Well done Team’ (see attached).
Lastly the attendees were addressed by Police Superintendent Dave Ball - who thanked the teams for their splendid work in our County in helping to educate drivers about the impact of speeding.
