ICVs are volunteers who play a vital role in making sure detainees are treated fairly, safely, and with dignity. By carrying out unannounced visits to Cleveland Police's custody suites, they help keep the justice system transparent and accountable.
As an Independent Custody Visitor, you will:
🔹 Visit police custody suites unannounced 🔹 Speak directly with detainees about their welfare 🔹 Check that rights, entitlements and standards are being upheld 🔹 Observe the condition facilities and raise any concerns 🔹 Report findings to help drive improvements
No experience is needed and full training is provided so you understand detainees’ rights and police responsibilities.
You can apply if you: ✔️ Are aged 18 or over ✔️ Are not directly involved in the criminal justice system
