Impersonation Fraud / Courier Fraud - Trigger Fraud Alert #38 (March 2026) |
||
Dear Resident, I would like to share with you the below Trigger Fraud Alert: Impersonation Fraud / Courier Fraud - Help us Stop this Fraud– Tell everyone!! Humberside Police have advised that fraudsters are continuing to contact victims in the Humberside Police area via telephone and portraying themselves to be police officers. The fraudsters have asked the victims to withdraw money from their bank, exchange bureau, pawn brokers or by gift/Steam cards. The fraudsters will invent a reason: the police are investigating someone at the local branch or the police need to seize counterfeit money and send it off to forensics. The victim will be given a cover story to tell the cashiers, and/or they will be asked not to tell anyone about the police investigation. Important: The police or your bank will not contact you out of the blue to participate in an investigation or send a courier to your home to collect bank cards, cash, gift cards or other valuable items. Any requests to do so are fraud. Please tell the truth to your bank or exchange bureau when you are withdrawing money – they can help prevent you from losing your money. These fraudsters are very convincing but remember; If anyone cold calls you, it is ok to Hang up! Don’t trust your caller ID display on your phone – fraudsters use software that can change the appearance of their phone number and appear different on your phone screen (like a local number). Landline phones can have a delay. When you put the phone down and pick it back up, you could still be on the phone with the fraudster. Reporting and Support If you have been a victim and lost money, call 101 and report it to Humberside Police. Visit fraudwatch.org.uk for more information about fraud and where to get support.
